Out in the Snow by Susan
Today my husband and I finally took the car into town. The side roads near our home still had some dangerous areas of ice. Once we made it to the main highway the roads were clear. We drove to a restaurant in town for dinner and had no problems getting there.
Once we arrived at the restaurant we saw that the parking lot was still covered with ice and and a little snow. It had been plowed and they had moved it into several huge piles of snow here and there. This limited the parking spaces dramatically.
We found a parking space fairly close to the building but when we opened the door we had to put our feet on a thick layer of packed ice and snow. We held onto the car as we carefully approached the sidewalk which was cleared off. Whew! I always feel very anxious when trying to walk on this slippery stuff.
Returning to the car we had to be just as careful but neither of us old folks fell. We made one more stop at the grocery store and it was bitterly cold by that time, about 10 degrees. brrrrrr. There was packed ice in that parking lot as well.
On the way home I enjoyed the beauty of the ice glistening on the trees from the lights on the street. It looked almost eerie. In the sunshine it looked simply beautiful. I saw a few snowmen that children must have built earlier in the day before it got so cold.
My husband and I must have been experiencing some "cabin fever" type of depression because we certainly enjoyed getting out in the snow today. Tonight it feels good to be home where it's cozy and warm.
