Happy Valentine's Day!

by Susan

I'd like to wish all of our readers a Happy Valentine's Day!  It doesn't matter if you are in a relationship, in love, having a romance with someone or all alone, this day will affect your level of depression in some way.   Hopefully you feel good today and your level of depression is low.   Mine is nearly non-existent today.  I wish the same for you.

When I was young, I used to think Valentine's Day was such a hopeful day.....hoping someone loved me.  That opened up the door for disappointment and depression.   Now, as I've grown older, I focus instead on who I love.  I feel a lot better about Valentine's Day  because I  reach out to those I care about and don't focus on whether or not someone is reaching out to me.   It has taken me a lot of years to get to this point but it makes me a lot happier on Valentine's Day.

Relationships aren't always what they are cracked up to be.  If you aren't in a relationship this Valentine's Day, it's okay.  If you are in a bad relationship, use this day to think of ways to improve it , or ways to leave it, if necessary.   Whatever your situation is, I hope you will do something to make this day special for you and those you love.

You have a very well laid out and well-written blog, and you address an important subject for so many people. Keep up your good work here. I wish you every success. I do have one question: I know who the "her" is (it's you), but who is the "his"?

    All the best,

I just have to tell you, when I read your blog posts, you are an incredible writer. You take depression and turn it into such a managable disorder. When I read your thoughts, story, etc. it gives me such a good feeling that those of us that are suffering at times with this can see the "silver lining" ahead. Thank you for your time to help those of us who do get very down especially in the winter when we lack he sunlight. I don't know about anyone else or even where you live; but I live in PA and last week we had some spring type weather and boy did it make a difference for me. I always look forward to your new additions in your blog. I hope you had a great Valentines Day and everyday for that matter. Again, thank you.

    Sue

Thanks so much for your comment.  The His in this blog is my brother.  If you look in the archives you will find articles written by him.  He hasn't written anything for months now but I have hopes he will feel better and write again soon.

Thank you so much for your kind and supportive words.  I'm so glad to have you as a regular reader.  I know what you mean about having some spring like weather.  We had some here in Missouri not long ago and it was wonderful.  We were able to get outside in the sunshine and walk which was a great boost for my depression.
