New Depression Site
I recently came across a fairly new website that I think could be very helpful to those of us who suffer from depression. The site is called Everyday Health and the section of the site that I especially like is Depression Basics. In Depression Basics you can find topics such as "The ABC's of Depression", "Are You at Risk for Depression" and "Questions to Ask Your Doctor". There is also a tool to list your symptoms and it helps you determine whether or not you need to see your doctor.
The Depression part of the website also contains a link to find out about other mental health problems as well as a tool to help you find a therapist in your area. There is also a section that discusses seasonal depression, which many of us have to deal with when coping with cabin fever and in general, the winter blues.
I haven't yet explored the rest of this website but I can highly recommend you investigate what is offered in Depression Basics. From this section you can easily move to other sections dealing with depression including, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, management and caregiving. This site has an orderly collection of material that most of us can find helpful, whether to refresh our memories or to learn something new.

Yes - it is a good web site, as is yours. One of the things that worries me enormously is the proliferation of sites full of misinformation and biased views paraded as science or fact (whether from people with depression or some of the pharmaceutical industry).
Maybe it is time there was some quality control? A network of sites and blogs that subjected themself to some peer and medical review so that visitors had some trust in the quality of what is offered. I know that in the early days of dealing with depression, if I'd followed the advice of what was on the web I would have become a vegetarian, run eight miles a day wearing bright colours, taken up meditation, refused all antidepressants and at the same time taken vast quantities of any antidepressants I could find.. you get the picture.
A self managing system of quality control, with some agreed standards around advertising (some blogs and sites are a mask for pedaling snake oil); things like having a privacy policy; and a code of agreed conduct (eg reveal external funding sources if they are pharmaceutical companies, political fronts etc...)
If you or any other other webmasters/bloggers are interested then I'd love to hear from you at my site: michael-lockwood.com. I might have depression, but that doesn't make me a twit. I think the voice that needs to be heard loudest is that of people like us who are living it and taking the debate and issues seriously. It is not a case of everyone agreeing on everything (far from it), but it is a case for not letting a few give players give a bad reputation to all the others.

lilyruth - happy to read four of your adds, but I am interested how you read four of mine- I only have three and they're buried in a blog. Apart from that there are some links, including a couple to articles I've published in print media, so maybe you're counting them? Check my site at Michael-Lockwood.com

Hello,
As an Artistic therapist I work a lot with clients in London that deal with depression and other sorts of mental health and emotional issues. Such a difficult journey for so many people out there!
A few months ago I have co-founded a new charity Inspired By People and we are working in partnership with organisations in developing countries to support the most vulnerable people. This includes a wonderful project in West Nepal where we set up a trauma recovery centre and mental health outreach programme that supports people in remote villages.
We recently organised a trek through the Himalayas visiting the working areas of our partnering organisation. With this we raised money for this project. We are still at the very start of it and will need to raise lots more.
If you would like to read more about our projects or perhaps want to challenge yourself and join us on our next trek then please have a look at our website: www.inspiredbypeople.org
I am looking forward to hearing from you!

What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
